I noticed about a month ago that Reid was getting increasingly frustrated with his bottle feedings. I tried everything from increasing the volume to feeding him more often and even tried graduating to a faster flow nipple. This last attempt was a bad idea as it caused him to drink his bottle in about 4 minutes flat and resulted in some pretty impressive projectile...well, you get the idea. I'd been considering rice cereal, but just didn't know what the protocol was for preemies. So, I waited it out and asked Dr. Kahn about it at our last appointment (which was Feb. 2nd). She gave us the green light for cereal! We've been feeding him some oatmeal each night for about a week. His oatmeal, by the way, neither looks nor smells like my Quaker Oats Maple Sugar favorite - not sure why he likes it so much, but he does! Here are some pics of his first 'solid food' attempt - pretty messy stuff.
Unfortunately, his internal alarm clock is still going off at 3 am every morning, so the cereal hasn't really helped in that area...stop laughing Janine.
Oh, and check back for more pics soon...we are starting stage 1 foods next week!
